Overview of Klarna's XS2A v2 (Berlin Group openFinance) PSD2 API — what it is, the rollout roadmap, regulated migration timelines, and change log.

Klarna's XS2A v2 API is Klarna Bank AB's new PSD2 access-to-account interface, built on the Berlin Group openFinance (NextGenPSD2) Framework v2.x. It replaces the legacy Klarna XS2A API and gives licensed Third Party Providers (TPPs) a standardized, dedicated interface for account information and payment initiation.
For a general introduction to PSD2, the services Klarna exposes (AIS, PIS and, planned, Confirmation of Funds), and how this API relates to the legacy interface and the contingency mechanism, see the Open Banking and PSD2.
To call the API you must be a licensed TPP authenticating with a valid eIDAS certificate over mutual TLS — see Requirements.
Roadmap
The XS2A v2 API is rolling out in phases. Dates are planning targets and may shift; this page is updated as milestones are confirmed.
During the transition, the legacy XS2A API and v2 run in parallel so existing TPPs can migrate without service disruption. New integrations should target v2 directly from the production release.
Documentation available in advance — the interface technical specification is published, free of charge, at least 6 months before the production market launch (RTS Art. 30(3)).
Testing facility in advance — a sandbox for connection and functional testing is made available at least 6 months before market launch, and remains available for the duration of the transition (RTS Art. 30(5)).
Parallel-run transition period — the legacy XS2A API remains operational alongside v2 throughout the transition so existing TPPs can migrate without service disruption.
Advance notice before decommissioning — retiring the legacy interface is a change to the access interface, so it is communicated to TPPs as soon as possible and not less than 3 months before the legacy API is switched off, except in emergency situations (RTS Art. 30(4)). The RTS sets no fixed shut-off date relative to launch; the 3-month change notice is the binding minimum. A firm decommissioning date will be announced with at least this notice once the transition is underway.
If you integrate against the legacy XS2A API today, start planning your migration at the transition start. See Migration from the legacy XS2A API.
