Klarna's Open Banking (PSD2) access-to-account offering — what PSD2 is, the APIs Klarna provides for licensed TPPs, how to stay informed, support, and interface status.
3 min read
Klarna Bank AB is an account-servicing payment service provider (ASPSP) under PSD2. This section is the single entry point for licensed Third Party Providers (TPPs) integrating with Klarna's Open Banking interfaces — the new Berlin Group openFinance API, the legacy XS2A API during the transition, and the PSD2 RTS contingency mechanism.
What is PSD2
The revised Payment Services Directive (PSD2, Directive (EU) 2015/2366) requires banks and other account-servicing payment service providers (ASPSPs) to give regulated third parties secure access to payment accounts, with the customer's explicit consent. This "Access to Account" (XS2A) obligation is what enables open banking across the EEA.
Klarna Bank AB acts as the ASPSP. Licensed TPPs can use Klarna's PSD2 interfaces to provide:
PSD2 service
Role
Capability
Account Information Service (AIS)
PSP_AI
Read accounts, balances and transactions with consent
Payment Initiation Service (PIS)
PSP_PI
Initiate and query payments from a payment account
Confirmation of Funds (PIIS)
PSP_IC
Confirm availability of funds — planned, not yet available in XS2A v2
The regulated fallback interface when the dedicated interface is unavailable.
New integrations should target the XS2A v2 API directly. If you integrate against the legacy XS2A API today, see Migration from the legacy XS2A API.

Support
Need help with an integration question or a production issue across any of Klarna's PSD2 interfaces? See the PSD2 / XS2A support page for contact channels and what to include in a request.
When reporting an issue, always include:
The interface and version you are calling (XS2A v2, legacy XS2A v1, or the contingency mechanism).
Your TPP identifier and the affected environment (sandbox or production).
Request/response identifiers and timestamps (UTC), where available.
Status and availability
In line with RTS Art. 32(4), Klarna publishes quarterly statistics on the availability and performance of its PSD2 interfaces, covering both the dedicated TPP interface and the interface made available to Klarna's own customers. Current availability figures, planned maintenance, and the cross-interface change history are tracked on the Status and announcements page.
