Klarna Bank AB is an account-servicing payment service provider (ASPSP) under PSD2. This section is the single entry point for licensed Third Party Providers (TPPs) integrating with Klarna's Open Banking interfaces — the XS2A API and the PSD2 RTS contingency mechanism.

What is PSD2

The revised Payment Services Directive (PSD2, Directive (EU) 2015/2366) requires banks and other account-servicing payment service providers (ASPSPs) to give regulated third parties secure access to payment accounts, with the customer's explicit consent. This "Access to Account" (XS2A) obligation is what enables open banking across the EEA.

Klarna Bank AB acts as the ASPSP. Licensed TPPs can use Klarna's PSD2 interfaces to provide:

PSD2 serviceRoleCapability
Account Information Service (AIS)PSP_AIRead accounts, balances and transactions with consent
Payment Initiation Service (PIS)PSP_PIInitiate and query payments from a payment account
Confirmation of Funds (PIIS)PSP_ICConfirm availability of funds

Access is governed by the Regulatory Technical Standards on SCA & CSC (Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2018/389). To call any of Klarna's PSD2 interfaces you must be a licensed TPP authenticating with a valid eIDAS certificate over mutual TLS.

Support

Need help with an integration question or a production issue across any of Klarna's PSD2 interfaces? See the PSD2 / XS2A support page for contact channels and what to include in a request.

When reporting an issue, always include:

  • The interface you are calling (the XS2A API or the contingency mechanism).
  • Your TPP identifier and the affected environment (sandbox or production).
  • Request/response identifiers and timestamps (UTC), where available.

Status & availability

In line with RTS Art. 32(4), Klarna publishes quarterly statistics on the availability and performance of its PSD2 interfaces, covering both the dedicated TPP interface and the interface made available to Klarna's own customers. Current availability figures, planned maintenance, and the cross-interface change history are tracked on the Status & announcements page.
