Klarna has partnered with Stripe to offer an integrated payments solution for online Partners. This setup allows Klarna to be added as a payment method to your store.

Stripe acts as an acquirer and processor, managing Partner onboarding, compliance, and settlement, while Klarna provides the end-customer payment experience, including services like Pay Now, Pay Later, and Financing.

Partners can choose between two paths when integrating Klarna through Stripe: Core integration and Advanced integration. Both options connect your site to Klarna’s powerful payments network via Stripe, but they serve different needs and offer different customer experiences.

The Core Integration path is ideal for Partners looking to enable Klarna quickly without significant development effort. In this model, all checkout and payment interactions are handled by Stripe, who then routes the transaction to Klarna.
You still benefit from Klarna’s key services such as:

• Payment processing
• Dispute management
• Supplementary Purchase Data advantages

However, this setup does not expose Klarna-specific customer-facing features like Express Checkout or promotional messaging. Klarna works as a secure, robust payment option, but remains largely invisible to the customer.

This is the best choice for Partners who want a low-effort, high-reliability solution without requiring deeper customization or branding.

Enable Klarna via Stripe Dashboard

To add Klarna to your Stripe integration, follow these steps:

1. Log into the Stripe Dashboard.
2. Go to Settings > Payments > Payment methods.
3. Confirm your logo, brand information, and contact emails are up to date as they will be shared with us when you add Klarna as a payment method.
4. Optional: use Stripe's test mode to check your integration and customer flow without placing production orders. You can do this by toggling Test mode in your Stripe dashboard before enabling Klarna.
5. On the list of payment methods, find Klarna and click Turn on.Advanced integration

For partners aiming to offer a tailored, high-converting checkout experience, Advanced Integration brings Klarna closer to the customer through its Web SDK.

With this setup, Klarna’s frontend components become part of the Partner website. This unlocks:

• Klarna Express Checkout for faster, more personalized checkouts

• On-site messaging to display Klarna’s flexible payment options throughout the shopping journey
